Getting Started
This guide covers the first few weeks of a new OGame account — from your first planet to multiple colonies with a functional fleet.
Day 1 — Foundation
Build Order (Homeworld)
- Metal Mine 1 → 4
- Crystal Mine 1 → 2
- Solar Plant 1 → 3
- Metal Mine 5 → 7
- Crystal Mine 3 → 5
- Deuterium Synthesizer 1 → 3
- Robotics Factory 1 → 3
- Research Lab 1
First Research Priority
Energy Technology 1
→ Combustion Drive 2
→ Espionage Technology 2
→ Computer Technology 2
→ Impulse Drive 1
This unlocks Small Cargos and Espionage Probes.
Week 1 — First Raids
Scouting
- Build 5–10 Espionage Probes
- Scan neighbouring inactive players (grey name = inactive)
- Look for undefended planets with resources on the surface
Raiding
- Build 20–50 Light Fighters + 10 Small Cargos
- Attack inactives with resources showing
- Always check for defence — even basic Rocket Launchers can destroy your LFs
Grey usernames indicate inactivity. Check them first — no online player will be watching their screen to recall their fleet.
Week 2 — First Colony
Research Path
Astrophysics 1 (requires Impulse 3 + Espionage 4)
→ Build Colony Ship
→ Colonise outer planet (slot 12–15 for deut)
Colony Priority
- Metal Mine 1 → 10
- Crystal Mine 1 → 8
- Deuterium Synthesizer 1 → 8
- Solar Plant as needed
- Robotics Factory 1 → 5
- Shipyard 1 (optional on colony)
Week 3–4 — Fleet Expansion
Research Priority
Combustion Drive 6 (Large Cargo + Recycler)
→ Computer Technology 4 (more fleet slots)
→ Weapons/Shield/Armour 4–5 each
→ Impulse Drive 4 → Cruiser
→ Hyperspace Technology 3 → Battleship
Fleet Build
- 100 Light Fighters for cheap raiding
- 10–20 Large Cargos for hauling
- 5–10 Recyclers for debris recovery
- First Cruiser as soon as possible
Core Principles
If you go offline for more than 30 minutes with a valuable fleet, fleet save it. See Fleet Saving guide. Losing a fleet to a spy is the #1 beginner mistake.
A common rule: Metal Mine = Crystal Mine + 3 levels = Deuterium Synthesizer + 5–7 levels. Adjust based on your universe's resource ratios.
Each new colony doubles your income potential. Rush Astrophysics to 3 (2 colonies) as fast as possible.
Build Metal Storage, Crystal Storage, Deuterium Tank to protect your income. Raided resources are gone forever.
