Research Lab

Research Lab

Overview

The Research Lab is required to conduct all scientific research. A higher-level lab reduces research time and is needed to unlock advanced technologies. The Intergalactic Research Network links Research Labs across planets to speed up research even further.

Research Time Reduction

Tresearch=Base time1+Lab levelT_\text{research} = \frac{\text{Base time}}{1 + \text{Lab level}}

With the IGN, up to NN additional labs contribute their level to the divisor:

T=Base time1+best lab+sum of next N best labsT = \frac{\text{Base time}}{1 + \text{best lab} + \text{sum of next } N \text{ best labs}}

Tips

Get to Level 12

Research Lab 12 unlocks Graviton Technology, the research required for the Deathstar. It's a long-term goal for all serious players.

Colony Labs Matter

Levelling Research Labs on colonies (even to 6–8) adds significant throughput via IGN once you unlock it.

Research Order

Early priorities: Energy 1 → Combustion 6 → Impulse 3 → Espionage 4–6 → Computer 4 → Weapons/Shield/Armour.
