Tips
Tanky Filler
Ion Cannons are not great damage dealers but their 500 base shield absorbs many hits before the hull is threatened. Use them as shield-sponge fillers between your heavy damage dealers.
Cost vs Value
At 8,000 total resources per unit, Ion Cannons are not particularly efficient for damage. Gauss Cannons deal more damage for less metal; reserve Ion Cannons for shield-heavy playstyles.
